Why should I have composite bonding?

Composite can perfectly mimic tooth enamel, creating a beautifully natural looking result. It is built directly onto your tooth, meaning we don’t need to remove any of your existing tooth structure, and it can be easily repaired if necessary.

The composite material, a special resin made from a combination of plastic and glass, can be matched to your tooth colour, or your desired shade, able to repair or transform your smile in a highly aesthetic way. Our skilled dentists are experts in reshaping and building up your teeth to make it appear there was never any damage or gap.

What does the treatment involve?

Firstly, we clean and dry your tooth, and prepare it for treatment by applying a special gel. This creates a rough surface for the composite material to bond effectively to.

We apply the composite in layers to gradually build up the desired shape. The composite material is carefully colour matched to your existing teeth to ensure it blends beautifully with your smile.

We harden the composite material under a blue light, which sets immediately, giving you full tooth function straight away. We then professionally polish your tooth, leaving it looking beautifully shiny and smooth and blending seamlessly into your smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I look after my restored tooth?

The best way to look after your tooth and keep the bonding lasting as long as possible is to keep up with an excellent oral hygiene routine at home. It is also important to visit your dentist for regular check up appointments so we can keep an eye on your treated tooth.

  • Is composite bonding permanent?

Composite bonding can last for up to 4 years before needing to be repaired or replaced. As none of your natural tooth structure is removed to make way for the bonding material, the treatment can also be reversed if you decide you no longer want it. The composite can be removed with no damage to your tooth underneath.

  • Does composite bonding hurt?

No, the treatment is completely pain free. There is no drilling required and we don’t need to use any anaesthetic at all.

  • Will composite bonding damage my teeth?

No, composite bonding does not damage your teeth in any way. As it is adhered to the surface of your tooth in layers, it can be removed and repaired without issue.

  • How long do I have to wait until I can eat following composite bonding treatment?

You can eat on your treated tooth straight away! As the composite material is hardened and sets immediately, your tooth will function just like the rest of your natural teeth from the moment you step out of the practice door.
